What do I do if My Rabbit Gets Sick?

Here are some things you can do if I get sick:

            If I have sore feet/hocks, get me some Blue Coat cream from a vet or pet store.

            If I have strings of pearl (poop tied together by fur) under my cage, then give me 1 tsp. of meat tenderizer in a small can of banana baby food and feed me 3 CC’s using a syringe to squirt it inside my cheek.  To prevent fur balls, buy me some Papaya Pills, they are a treat for me.  You will know if I start to get fur balls, I won’t eat as much and I could stop going to the bathroom or not go as much.  In the spring when my fur starts to molt, you may want to give me some pineapple, (Doesn’t matter if it is fresh or if it is from the can) that will help the fur go through my body and it won’t clog up in 1 spot.

            If I have ear mites, get some baby oil and put it in my ear and work it in rubbing the base of my ear then wipe my ears out with cotton balls.  When your done, stand back, I will shake my head and I will probably splash on you.  Do that once a day for 2 or 3 days.

If I get snuffles, you may want to get rid of me.  If I get snuffles, I have a cold.  I will have crusty stuff all around my nose and my eyes will probably start watering.  Usually I will have a milky or yellow discharge.  A clear discharge or sneeze, may mean I am allergic to something but do NOT have the snuffles.  You can get medicine to make me better but snuffles will come back and it is contagious if you have other rabbits. One medicine that does work is Beytril for cattle.  The dosage we use is 0.1CC twice a day for 7 to 10 days.

If I get fur mites I will lose my fur – usually behind my neck first, buy some Sevin Garden Dust from Wal-Mart or another garden store. Sprinkle a bunch on me and work it into my fur real good.  I like getting rubbed and that will get rid of those pesky mites (try to get rid of them right away if I do get them, they hurt me when they bite my skin.).
